WINTER MAPS TESTING IS COMING SOON!

Winter MAPS Testing is starting next week, but our class won't take them until Tuesday, February 18th and Thursday, February 20th. They will take both sessions in the afternoon, right after lunch. I am looking forward to their progress since they have all made such nice gains in class.

Semester challenge for great behavior

This semester's school behavior award will be tied to the Olympics. Children will be able to earn going to the Petit Ice Skating rink for an afternoon. It will be on Thursday, February 12 and our class will be going from 11:30-2:30. It is going to be a special day! I know all of the students from room 106 will be there. Just a side note: make sure that your child wears one thick or two thin pairs of socks that go up to the calves. Many times students get sores because their feet and shins aren't protected.

Six Flags Challenge

The Six Flags Challenge reading logs will be due by Friday, February 7th. Remember, if you had it in, you will get a free ticket to Six Flags this summer! So keep reading everyone!

Survive Alive

Due to the cold weather on Monday and Tuesday, the students were unable to go to Survive Alive. However, it has been rescheduled for Thursday, February 13 from 1:00-2:30 pm.

Each fourth and fifth grade classroom teacher had to pick five students to be in the competition. I made our classroom decision on how they did on their quarterly assessment test. Character Dress-up Day

Character Dress-Up Day

Friday January 17, 2014

Who:  All Mitchell Elementary Students, Teachers, and Staff

Where:  Mitchell Elementary

When:  Friday January 17, 2014

Why:  Celebration of Reading

The Reading Committee at Mitchell Elementary has organized this fun event to celebrate reading. We want to give you enough time to help your child, choose their character, costume and book.  A form will be sent home with your student to fill out describing the character, title, author, a brief reason why they chose the character and an area to illustrate their book.

If you have questions please contact a member of the reading committee: Dawn Carson, Chris Reiser, Stephanie Szuslik, Pam Taylor, Amanda Zelinski

Welcome back!

I hope everyone is well rested from all the hustle and bustle of the holidays. I just wanted to update all of you about some changes that we are doing in our room. In preparation for Next Generational classroom, which your children will be part of next year, we are removing the desks. The children are doing this on a volunteer basis. Some of them don't feel ready for it and that is fine. However, the goal is to have everyone desk free by the fourth quarter. However, even then, I won't do it if they feel it will affect their learning. Each child has two bins for their things and those will be stored on the shelves in the classroom. However, I am sticking with the assignment notebooks and homework assignments for the third quarter since I think the students still need that structure. Feel free to come in and see the changes anytime if you want to!
